", everyone, i'm megyn kelly. at this point we're waiting to hear from the clackamas county authorities. we could soon learn the gunman's identity or information about motive or background at least. we have heard police do not believe this man knew his victims. that he was shooting indiscrimminantly. the shooting sent people in the mall near portland running for their lives. witnesses said the gunman started firing outside of macy's in the food court. one said the gunman practically announced himself with the chilling words, i am the shooter, before he began shooting at random. a series of rapid shots were fired as christmas music played in the background. horrified shoppers leaving scene with their hands up. you can see some of that there as they were escorted out. eerily reminiscent of the tragedy at column bind high school. remember we saw the kids escorted out. one witness said the shooter was warying a bulletproof vest and always protect themselves and carrying a ar-15 rifle. the gun jammed possibly preventing a bigger tragedy. afterwards survivors detailed the horror. >> my friend was

severe side, but the snow, momentum look like as much snow on the map, but it's falling at very rapid rates, very heavy snow falling across the mississippi river valley between iowa and in towards illinois. some areas receiving their first snow in over 290 days, that's the case for chicago. you're getting snow today for the first time. also the latest in the season you've ever seen snow. and it's coming with a lot of winds. we have blizzard warnings in effect for parts of minnesota, wisconsin, illinois and iowa, and some areas maybe another 6-8 inches of snow. down to the south, though, is where we have a tornado watch in effect until 6 p.m. tonight, and there's one tornado warning moving in towards georgia, so be very careful. watch these storms continue to progress up towards the east, and that threat for severe weather will continue all night long, exiting out across the mid atlantic. megyn: the picture says a lot. rick reichmuth, thank you. >> reporter: you bet. ♪ megyn: well n connecticut new developments today in the investigation into the sandy hook elementary school tragedy.

everyone at home. it led up here in clarks summit, pennsylvania. aside from a few flurries blowing around from the wind. it is coming down in parts of new york state and across the new england states. new york's governor andrew cuomo, has opened up an emergency operations center and he also warned power companies to really be on their toes especially following all the criticism that happened for their slow response from superstorm sandy and getting power turned back on for those residents who were in the dark and the cold for a couple of weeks. our plans changed a little bit last night. we decided to spend the night in clarks summit because the road conditions deteriorated and we didn't want to go farther north. the borough president told me their snow totals were down last year and they were able to stockpile some of the salt from the roadways last year and that's what they're using for this storm. council president says they're happy this first snowstorm of the season hasn't been a major blizzard for them. >> we're on a good track this year and, you know, the weather, you take wh

at times before moving on to places like wisconsin where blizzard conditions are expected by tomorrow. up to a foot of snow could fall on northern michigan. and that is not all. the system will also cause headaches we're told in other parts of the nation. who will get what when? meteorologist janice dean standing by live in the fox weather center. jd, what is the story? >> the story is a blizzard and it will affect millions upon millions of people. want to make sure my weather map works. it does. let's move in. i will though show you where we'll see rain and snow. this storm has not gotten its act together yet. we're seeing a foot or more of snow but we're starting to see this thing crank up. you see the rain across the nation's heartland? there is the snow. but the wind will be the major problem. see the red-shaded area? those are blizzard warnings, meaning we'll see heavy snow, gustings of over 50 miles an hour. that will cause blowing snow. what will that do? it will cripple, cripple travel across the upper midwest across the next 24 to 36 hours as the storm moves eastward

alert on questions surrounding an arrest at the office of powerful united states senator as one of his former interns is taken into custody. welcome to "america live," everyone, i'm megyn kelly. fox news has confirmed that new jersey democrat robert menendez employed an unpaid intern who was not only in this country illegally, but was apparently a registered sex offender. senator menendez says he just learned about the situation this week, but according to the associated press, immigration and customs enforcement, i.c.e., first learned about this intern back in early october. they then notified their superiors at the department of homeland security, and an ap source -- described as an official -- says that the department of homeland security instructed i.c.e. not to arrest this guy until after election day. when contacted by fox news, homeland security denied that allegation that the arrest was delayed until after election day, but clearly this is all just coming to the surface now, and there are questions about why and questions about how it happened in the first place. joining us
